Bob has a nose for cash

THE PUPILS at St Cyres are always willing to give of their time and energy to help others and the school has an excellent reputation for charity work.

For more than 20 years the school has organised a collection amongst the students for the Save the Children Fund and has also taken complete responsibility for the street collection in Penarth.

It was the turn of 11-year-old Year-7 pupils this year to form the organising committee to run the fund raising in school and the eight girl volunteers demonstrated a huge enthusiasm.

After constructing a very impressive display in the Reception area they visited classrooms each day, gave up their breaks and decided to hold a raffle to help raise money - the prize being a cuddly Doberman puppy called Bob!

The eventual winner of Bob was Jordan Lloyd.

The amount raised in school is still to be counted but the girls hope that it makes a good contribution to the charity.

The street collection took place on Saturday, May 1 - the first volunteer to the scene being Hayley Wilson at 9am!

A total of 22 students then stood in Windsor Road in the rain and the shoppers of Penarth must have taken pity on them because the total of £306 was the most that has ever been raised!

The pupils would like to thank all those who gave so generously and took the time to talk to them.
