The magnificent flying machines

VICTORIA Primary School was a buzz of excitement recently as the staff and children experienced a wide range of practical science activities. The emphasis was very much on fun and yet the children also managed to learn a lot along the way.

The whole school took part with activities such as making and testing balloon rockets and parachutes, wax paintings, Smartie melting, and magic ice hands. One class even managed to elevate bodies using household bin liners!

Some Year five and Year six pupils set themselves personal fitness challenges to measure their heart rates and tested forces via exercises in jumping and travelling.

Parents were also invited in by members of the Science Club and given the challenge of building a drinking straw tower of at least a metre high that was capable of holding the weight of a marble. This activity was won by the Lewis family with their creation "Marble Towers".

Miss Edwards, the school's science co-ordinator, said: "I would like to thank everyone for helping to make our Science day such a success and I look forward to next year."
