Memories: Extracts from the Penarth Times

EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of June 1, 1979:

Christopher Ackland, 17, son of Mr and Mrs R Ackland of Dochdwy Road, Llandough, won the 16-18 age group for classical guitar in the Gwent Music Festival.

TSM Roger Pirbrick presented a cheque for £700 to George Jensen, Headmaster of Headlands School, the proceeds of a sponsored walk by "C" Glamorgan Yeomanry Troop.

Last Sunday evening's concert in All Saints' Church by the Cardiff String Orchestra brought to a close the first season of All Saints' Church Music and Arts' Society.

There were no major shocks in last Thursday's Penarth Town Council elections when the Conservatives retained nine and Labour the other three of the 12 seats.

Cllr Ruby Parsons started the members of the Albert Road Ladies' Keep Fit class off on their Bank Holdiday sponsored walk in aid of children's charities.

Nesta Lamey was presented with a bouquet by Gaynor Grant the Penarth J and M Slimming World class teacher, after winning the class nomination as "Slimmer of the Year."
