EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of June 8, 1979:

Cllr Des Leddington has been installed as the new Penarth town mayor by retiring mayor Cllr Mrs Susan Thomas.

The total cost of work to overcome tenant complaints at the Harbour View and Royal Close estates, Penarth, could be in the region of £500,000. the Vale housing committee was told on Monday.

Simon Lewis, a pupil of St Cyres Comprehensive School, has for the second time become a prize-winner in the Barclays Essay Competition.

Cllr George Thomas has been installed as the new chairman of St Andrews Major (Dinas Powis) Community Council by retiring chairman Cllr Mrs Wendy Leslie-Smith.

A Penarth lecturer, Ellis Davies, of Milton Road, has won a prize in a national contest for new teaching ideas.

Joyce Wells, who last Thursday retired after a nursing career spanning almost 40 years, was presented with a cheque and floral arrangement by Mrs P Moore, senior nursing officer community midwifery.
