EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of June 29, 1979:

Eleven-year-old Helen Thorne, of Penarth, is starring in the West End hit musical Annie.

Cuts in fuel supplies mean that the Vale Council will be unable to maintain existing services - particularly with regard to street cleaning.

The full Vale Council on Monday agreed to the introduction of a dog warden service to search for and capture stray dogs in public places.

Cllr Arthur Rixson, a native of Penarth, was recently installed as Town Mayor of Builth Wells for the second time in five years.

St Joseph's RC Church, Penarth, held an auction last Saturday in aid of the church's renovation fund. Bishop Donal Mullins donated a pair of silver candlesticks.

A team of sailors from the destroyer, HMS Fife, which has been visiting Cardiff, sailed against members of Penarth Yacht Club.

Presentations of chrome axes were made at a social evening at Penarth Fire Station last Friday to former part time firemen, who played an important part in the Fire Service until the retained firemen section was disbanded.
