EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of July 6, 1979:

Penarth Town Council and local MP Sir Raymond Gower this week added their voices to the mounting opposition to the planned closure of the creche at Sully Hospital.

P Simpson-Wells and A R Dunstan, of Penarth, were leading in their class at the halfway stage of the 1979 Azores-and back yacht race.

Charles McDonagh presented a cheque from the parish to Father Jeffrey John, of Holy Nativity Church, Penarth, following his ordination to the priesthoood last weekend.

Principals of the Cedar School of Dance, Sandra Locke and Patricia Jones, presented a cheque for £230 to Joan Gilbert, secretary and treasurer of the Acute Leukaemia Fund for Children, whose head of department is Professor Jacobs at the Heath Hospital, Cardiff.

F J Adams, director of education for South Glamorgan, last week opened the Penarth school arts and craft exhibition at Turner House, Penarth.
