EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of August 3, 1979:

A total of 10 families of Vietnamese boat people are to be provided with homes in the Vale of Glamorgan Council's area.

Services provided by the Vale Council are bound to suffer as the authority complies with cuts in expenditure ordered by the Government.

Guardsman Nigel Harris, of Byrd Crescent, Penarth, a former pupil of Stanwell Comprehensive School, recently completed 22 weeks basic training, and after leave, joins the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards, Alexander Barracks, Pirbright.

Penarth Santa Claus and Benevolent Fund will benefit by the sum of £300 as a result of the collection taken during the Holiday Festival Carnival Parade.

Susan Newcombe, of the Cwrt-y-Vils, and secretary, Doris Morse, received the trophy as winners of the Jazz Bands Competition at Cliff Walk, last Saturday, from town mayor and mayoress, Cllr and Mrs Des Leddington, watched by deputy mayor, Cllr Anthony Ernest.
