AAAmazing results!

STANWELL Comprehensive is celebrating an outstanding set of A-Level results again this year.

A record 36% of A-Level entries from Stanwell pupils were awarded the highest possible grade.

Headteacher Malcolm Parker said: "This remarkable achievement is the best ever for Stanwell, which regularly topped league tables for Wales before their publication ceased. Staff are proud of the students' achievements, particularly individual pupils who received additional support for special educational needs when they arrived at the school and now have three A-Level passes."

Joel Evans, who recently returned from Portugal where he played for the Welsh U-21 hockey team, got six A grades at A Level in double maths, chemistry, physics, French and general studies.

Joel said: "I've got a place at Oxford to study engineering and science. I'm delighted but also relieved after two years' hard work. Long-term I'd like to work in civil engineering."

Emma John got five A grades at A-Level in German, Welsh, sociology, media studies and general studies. She also got a B in history.

Lisa Knight got A grades at A-Level in chemistry, maths, music and general studies. She also got a B in history and an A in maths at AS level.

Lisa said: "I just can't believe it. I'm over the moon. I am going to Bath to study natural sciences. I've no idea at this stage what I want to do career-wise."

Hannah Clapham got As in double maths, chemistry, and French at A-Level. She also got a B in biology and an A in general studies at AS-Level. Hannah now has a place at Oxford to study maths. She said: "I'm very happy. I have no idea yet what I want to do in the long-term but am looking forward to starting at Oxford."

Year 13 tutor Miss Menhenitt said: "We are all proud of the students, they have been a delight to work with and we wish them every future success."

PUPILS and staff at St Cyres Comprehensive School have been celebrating another outstanding set of A-level results.

Three-quarters of the school's students achieved grades A-C at A-level this year. In fact, pupils at the school chalked up no fewer than 77 A grades.

Head teacher Brian Lightman said: "Once again I am enormously proud of our students and their teachers. As in previous years these results place St Cyres amongst the top comprehensive schools in the UK - a particularly pleasing achievement in view of the fact that the school operates an open sixth form."

There were many outstanding individual achievements.

Headboy Amin Amin and Sally Hubbard achieved four A grades at A-level plus an A at AS-level.

Amin said: "It has been a long wait this summer but now I have the results I'm absolutely ecstatic at the prospect of going to medical school at Leicester University."

Mark Kolmar got 4 As at A-level and a B at AS-Level. Gareth Jones was awarded four As at A-level and Rhiannon Jones got three A grades and one B plus an AS-level.

Lucy Batten, Sarah Davies, Jessica Durham, Jamie Eidman, Nicola Green, Philippa Marshall and Andrew Walnycki all achieved three As at A-level.
