Village right on target with Bank Holiday fun

THE SUN shone for the hundreds of visitors flocking to Cosmeston Village to witness the wonders of a Medieval settlement.

Families and friends came in droves to spend hours at one of the Vale of Glam-organ's favourite destinations on a bank holiday weekend, and, as always, there was a mass of activity for all with many things to see and take part in.

There were the usual exciting events taking place on the open spaces, from archery and all manner of occupations from the different eras of the Dark Ages, with people donned in mediaeval dress showing exactly how hard - and sometimes painfully bloody - life could be way back then.

But there was the nice side of the times, as visitors marvelled at the skills it took to put together the intricate jewellery and the mysticism and beliefs behind certain stones.

The archery was a popular pastime for spectators and participants of all ages. The long bows were out for people to try their arm at the ancient art - under careful supervision of course!

Knights fought it out to become the supreme warrior and swords were drawn in battle. A grand day out was had by all, because the summer showers kept away and did not spoil the day.

The next event is October 30 - Medieval Hallowe'en. The dark side of medieval life - authentic and spooky as villagers tell tales of terror.

For mums and dads the Ivy Bush Tavern and traditional hog roast will be on hand to provide a bit of extra courage, and for the children there's a fancy dress competition and spine-tingling Hallowe'en games.
