Hair today, gone tomorrow!

A PENARTH pub was the source of hilarious antics over the bank holiday weekend as hairdressers went wild for charity.

Staff at The Bear's Head on Windsor Road volunteered hair from various parts of their body on Sunday, August 29, to raise money for a children's cancer and leukaemia charity.

First up for a makeover was Phil Davies, duty manager of the Wetherspoons pub, who had his hair dyed red, white and blue - the colours of the charity CLIC (Cancer and Leukaemia in Children).

Phil will continue to sport his new hairdo until a charity five-a-side football tournament to be held in Bristol next weekend between the various Wetherspoons pubs throughout Wales and the West Country.

The Penarth team, all members of staff at the pub, will take on rival pubs in the chain to raise more money for CLIC, which is the chosen charity of Wetherspoons. The event is known as Kick for CLIC.

Phil Davies said: "That was the best Sunday we have had in months and I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who turned up to support it and to all the staff for being such good sports.

"David 'Lucky' Spear, the cellarman, deserves a special mention because he has gone all out to raise money and to make the night such a big success. He really has put in so much hard work."

'Lucky' had half his hair shaven off and half dyed red as part of the fundraising effort.

Staff members John Hiles, Craig Sheppard, Mark Harrison and Rhys Symonds all had their legs waxed on the night to raise money.

On hand to make sure the night was a shining success were representatives from two Penarth hairdressers. Denise McAndrew from Dee-ziner Cut-z worked on Phil Davies' hair while a little later 'Lucky' fell victim to Alan Saddler's Rhian Camilleri.

A fabulous £400 was raised on the night bringing the team's total fundraising to a whopping £1,100.

Later in the evening Penarth's Big Brother celebrity Lisa Jeynes turned up to draw the prize raffle.
