Weather can't spoil Penarth Show

THE ORGANISERS of the Penarth Horticultural Show were pleased with the turn-out on Saturday and with the number of entries this year, considering persistently poor weather throughout August.

Mrs Mary Thomas said: "The number of entries we received was down on last year but this is not surprising considering the battering we had in August.

"Thankfully the sun shone on us on Saturday. I would like to say a big-thank you to all the members of the Penarth Horticultural Society without whom it would not be possible to stage the show."

Entries were received from competitors from Cardiff, Sully, Barry, Dinas Powys and across the Vale.

In the flower and plant section, the Hayman Bowl was won by Mary Thomas and the Penarth Pontoon Bowl by Christopher Evans. In the vegetable section the Rotary Club of Penarth Cup and the Brian Savage Memorial Prize were won by Cecil Townsend, and the HH Taylor Cup by Darren Cooper.

In the young persons section, Cian Stephens won the certificate of merit for vegetable growing and flower growing and Ffion Stephens won the poster competition.
