EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of September 7, 1979:

A Llandough man, Colin Ainsworth of Croft Mawr, a sub manager at a bank in Llantwit Major and treasurer of the town's Round Table, has won a trip to New Zealand to attend an international conference - through a £5 note!

Penarth Town Council has come out strongly against a proposal to build a 40,000 sq ft hypermarket on an eight-acre site at Penarth Dock Industrial Estate.

C Evans received a trophy for the best collection of vegetables from secretary T Warburton at Penarth Horticultural Society's annual show.

Dr W Shewell-Cooper of Arkley, S Herts, who attended school in Penarth more than 60 years ago, is hoping to meet up with some of his old school chums when he visits the area in November.

The grand total of grants from the Queens Silver Jubilee Trusts in South Glamorgan reached £21,217 with the presentation of seven more cheques on Tuesday.
