EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of September 28, 1979:

Planning permission for a 40,000 sq ft hypermarket on an eight acre site at the Penarth Dock Industrial Estate has been refused by the County Environment and Planning Committee.

Winner of the Malthouse Open Pool Singles Championship at Dinas Powis, David Phillips was presented with the Ron Groves Memorial Cup by the landlord Martin Hewitt.

Local house owners who would benefit from proposed coast protection work at the Cliff, Walk, Penarth, should not be asked to contribute toward the cost of the scheme, the Vale Public Works and Planning Committee decided.

Penarth police said farewell at a social evening held at The Commodore last week to two of their Sergeants who have transferred to Barry. Chief Inspector Eilyr Thomas presented a tankard to Sergeant Alan Kerslake and a copper plate etching to Sergeant Bob Knight.

At the Schooner on Thursday of last week an enthusiastic number of young people were welcomed by Rotarian President Les Richards, Chairman Rex Yates, and members of Penarth Rotary Club.
