Real mystery man is unmasked at last

THE MYSTERY man, who led thousands a merry dance around Pen-arth searching for him, has finally been unmasked - The Real Radio Fugitive is 40-year-old David Beeks, an actor and dancer from London.

David spent a month on the run as the station's biggest ever promotion had listeners following clues to his whereabouts each day.

He popped into our town with a whopping £5,000 bounty on his head. All listeners had to do was work out the clue and ask him those all-important six words: "Are you the Real Radio Fugitive?"

But Penarthians were unable to track him down during the sting, and he managed to escape unscathed.

He left his calling card in a pot of carnations at Chamberlain's flower shop on Stanwell Road, after the clue "Pink Panther" - 'panther' being an anagram of Penarth - was given.

All across the South and West Wales, towns and villages came to a standstill. Police were on security alert as he walked though Bridgend High Street as Batman, after he was suspected of being a Fathers 4 Justice campaigner the day after the Buckingham Palace incident.

Cardiff football ground was hit by hordes of listeners trying to find the fugitive in the stands at a Blue-birds' game, and shops stayed open in the hope he would walk into one.

Bounties amounting to tens of thousands were won by budding Sher-lock Holmes', shrewd enough to correctly identify the fugitive.

Speaking of his bizarre month, David said, "It'll be weird getting back to normal and I'm sure I'll be looking over my shoulder for a while, out of habit."
