ON STUDYING the notes providing information on our increased house bands, one is going to be faced with many areas of annoyance and the idea that this is again 'tax by stealth'.
What is the criterion for the increased banding? May one assume that it is the result of a remote pin pricking process? Why should some houses remain in their present band?
The majority of houses in this avenue were built in the 1930s. They were modest but meant for buyers of similar means. The present prices would make it impossible for me to live here.
Many retired people exist on a fixed income as few companies provide a cost of living increase. Furthermore, public utility costs rocket with monotonous regularity.
When investing money one is warned that prices can go down as well as up. This applies to the present inflated cost of houses. What will be the outcome when prices level and will it be reflected in the band? A silly question.
Why is this process taking place in Wales but not in England and does our so-called Assembly offer no comment?
While our present government appears to studiously avoid comment, is there any official Conservative opposition? The Liberal Democrat party does present a reasonable suggestion that a local income tax could replace the present system, but I have heard of so many brilliant political ideas that do not come to fruition.
I hope that your readers will feel as I do and protest, not that I imagine any result will be forthcoming.
