Patients enjoy new look garden

THE PATIENTS of Llandough Hospital's East 7 ward have a new-look garden to relax in thanks to a staff nurse on the ward and the staff of Asda in Cardiff Bay.

Jo Evans, 29, of Clos Caradog, made a winning application on behalf of her ward for a garden makeover as part of an Asda competition supporting worthy causes in the Cardiff Bay and Vale of Glamorgan area. Asda made a £500 donation to the garden project and staff from the store turned up at the hospital on a Sunday morning to carry out the work in their own time.

The money was spent on new garden furniture, garden ornaments and plant pots and the area has also been given a fresh design.

Jo Evans said: "We're delighted with how the garden has turned out. I would like to say a big-thank you on behalf of staff and patients on the ward to the staff at Asda for all their hard work and we appreciate that they did this unpaid in their free time. It's a fantastic effort and I'm sure patients on the ward will spend many happy hours there. Thanks too to Helen Ludlow, our nurse practitioner for coming up with the idea."

Anne Hopkins, a manager at Asda in Cardiff Bay, said: "Our staff were only too pleased to help with what is obviously a very worthy cause. As a group at Asda we do try to get involved with the local community."

Jo Evans is a therapeutic activities nurse on the East 7 ward, a new position at Llandough.

Jo organises activities to promote the welfare of patients during their time on the ward.

East 7 is an acute care medical ward specialising in care of the elderly.
