EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of October 19, 1979:

Despite a few unexpected problems this year's Gwyl Hydref Penarth (Penarth Autumn Festival) still offers a full programme of event continuing until October 21.

Penarth Town Council has come out firmly against the idea of any pedestrianisation of the town centre shopping area.

Greaseaters Ltd who won the BBC 2 Television Company of the Year Award 1979 have opened their first dept in South Wales at Penarth Dock.

Pupils of Erw'r Delyn School, Penarth, were presented with some lucky mascots by Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Cllr Bella Brown Saturday week, on behalf of the Variety Club of Great Britain, whose members were about to set off for a day at Chepstow.

Scout Peter Thomas (14th Penarth) received the coveted ASA Honours Award from Commissioner Fred Reddell.

Seven-year-old Claire McKendrick, of Coleridge Avenue, won the children's award in the poetry competition organised by Penarth Writers' Circle.
