Police prepare for busy Halloween

VALE police have launched their annual Halloween poster campaign, encouraging the town's youngsters to be careful.

Each year the posters are distributed to shops to give out to members of the public. Chief Superintendent Josh Jones, Divisional Commander for the Vale of Glamorgan said: "Halloween has turned into the busiest night in the policing calendar. The volume of telephone calls from the public reporting nuisance groups of youths is steadily increasing.

"Officers will be out in greater numbers on the days leading up to Halloween, and Halloween night itself, to deal with those who act irresponsibly and break the law.

"We would in particular, ask residents and Neighbourhood Watch members to ensure that elderly neighbours, people living alone and generally the more vulnerable in our society be considered at this time." "We do not want to spoil the tradition of Halloween and know that it is enjoyed by many young people.

"We have, therefore, printed posters for residents to put into their windows indicating whether they want callers on Halloween night or not, and would ask callers to respect those requests."

The Vale of Glamorgan Community Safety Partnership is also helping to fund the popular VIBE disco for 13 to 17-year-olds on October 31 between 7pm and 10.30pm at Barry Leisure Centre. The event will feature chart-topping hip-hop band Three Of A Kind and teen group Dragonheart.

House posters are available from Cowbridge, Barry and Penarth police stations and the Barry & District News office. Shopkeepers' posters are being distributed by police.
