A thought

YOUR correspondent, Miss Shane Simons, in her letter (Penarth Times, October 14), about Timothy's Thought for the weekend, in which she says he is very arrogant about humanity, has overlooked two important points. Having stated he is a father, he hardly needs a lesson on the facts of life.

Secondly, with his use of quotation marks, Timothy is relaying thoughts of Bernard Levin. Timothy did not contrast human kind with animals and birds, but Jesus Christ, the higher authority, did. Concerning sparrows, He said: "Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows."

When Timothy was younger than he is now he met some people of his own generation, who enjoyed a quality of life he didn't. It took humility, not arrogance, to enquire what was their secret. Upon learning that it was the reception of Christ into the life as Lord and Saviour that he did receive that life with a capital 'L', began to enjoy and some twenty years later, still does. Saul of Tarsus hated people who had this life and threw them into prison. It took a personal appearance of the risen Christ to change him, and it did. It will do the same for any who are willing to receive.
