Parking

I READ with some misgivings the article on the proposed new development at the town end of Plymouth Rd. ('Exciting future!' - Penarth Times, November 4).

While there is without doubt a need for affordable housing in Penarth, no indication was given in the article as to whether the proposed apartments would meet this need.

The description of the development also worries me in that a relatively tall building like this would block the light of residents in the nearby Cwm Jubilee flats.

My other fear is of an increase in pressure on the few parking spaces that are available to shoppers at the town end of Plymouth Rd. This would then lead to further clogging up of Plymouth Rd. The latter is an ongoing problem best known to local people who have become increasingly frustrated with the bottleneck caused by parked cars on either side of Plymouth Rd between Roxburgh Gardens and Holmesdale Place.

It would seem to me, and, I suspect, many other residents of Penarth, that before planning permission is given for the development radical measures concerning parking in the town centre need to be taken.

Penarth, as everyone who lives or works in the town knows, has an acute shortage of parking and tackling this should be a priority.

Only when this is achieved can our town have any sort of future - exciting or otherwise.
