High hopes for new CD

A PENARTH musician has released a CD that riding high the charts. Lincoln Barrett's new album High Society released by Hospital Records, is currently at number 33 in the Radio One dance album chart.

Known as High Contrast, the artist has now firmly established himself on the international drum and bass scene as an A-list producer and disc jockey.

Lincoln, who is the son of AM Lorainne Barrett, grew up and went to school in Penarth.

His debut album True Colours was was released on Hospital Records in June 2002 and won widespread critical acclaim.

And the High Contrast track Racing Green is enjoying success on the popular Radio One playlist.

Since the release of True Colours, Barrett moved on to the international DJ circuit, spending much of his time doing club sessions and mixing. In the last two years, Lincoln has mixed all over the world in countries as far afield as Canada and Korea. Last year he re-mixed with heavyweight names as The Streets, DKAY and Adam F.

His one solo vinyl release, The Basement Track, was one of the biggest tunes of 2003 and is still selling well a year on.

High Society includes dance floor tracks Racing Green, Tutti Frutti and The Persistence of Memory, Only Two Can Play with dancehall soulboy Spoonface, and Angels and Fly featuring up and coming grime star vocalist Nolay.

A review of High Society on the BBC website reads:

"The vast talent hinted at on his debut is confirmed in his sophomore effort High Society - an album that effortlessly blends samba, jazz, 2step, bossa nova, hip hop, rare groove and Detroit techno."
