DVD Review - Troy

TROY is a surprisingly sensitive insight into the barbarism of the war between Sparta and Troy.

In the year 1193 BC, Paris (Orlando Bloom), youngest prince of Troy, falls desperately in love with Helen, Queen of Sparta.

Stealing her from her husband, Menelaus, the couple set the kingdoms of Mycenae Greece at war with Troy. The Greeks sail to Troy and lay siege in a bloody and vicious battle, led by Agamemnon.

Brad Pitt plays the supposedly invincible warrior Achilles, who is remembered as the greatest hero among the Greeks. His portrayal of the man relies far less on myth and more on the possibility that Achilles was simply a highly-trained man unafraid of death.

A long film, quite slow to get off the ground, Troy gathers momentum until you experience just about every emotion.
