Slope hinders Sports

CWMBACH ROYAL STARS 2

SULLY SPORTS 3

PLAYING this South Wales Senior League Division One game on a small pitch at Aberdare, Sully were often thwarted as the ball ran away down the slope.

Sully opened the scoring when Les Harrington beat a hesitant defence and steered the ball wide of the keeper, but Cwmbach hit back from a corner.

Neil Haggard broke clear and beat the keeper with a perfectly placed shot to restore the lead.

The second half saw the introduction of Joe Hinds, who went at the Cwmbach defence with great skill. Just as Sully thought they had done enough, the home side forced a defensive blunder and Sully conceded a needless penalty, which was duly punished.

A pointless incident led to a Cwmbach defender seeing red as Sully pressed for the winner. Mark Brown centred for Neil Haggard to finish well, giving Sully a win which at times had looked beyond them.

Gareth Power and Bobby Brown were the pick of the Sully side and the finishing of Neil Haggard was the key to this rather fortunate win.

This Saturday, Sports are home to Fairwater in what will be another difficult encounter. Players report at 1.15pm at Swanbridge.

In the Vale of Glamorgan Division One, Sports face the Colts at home. Players report at 1.15pm. The Vets travel to Wenvoe to play Thermic Services.

Sports are cheered by the news that Richard Yarr is progressing after he was hospitalised by a serious injury.
