A GAY PENARTH woman who suffered years of abuse at the hands of her partner's former lover has hit out at his sentence for harassment.
Karen Beavers, 35, says Jeffery Stewart-Torrie, the man who fathered her partner's child, made her life a "living hell".
On November 17, Stewart-Torrie, 33, of St Luke's Avenue, was convicted of harassment by Barry magistrates, fined 50 and ordered to pay costs of 30.
Magistrates also granted a restraining order against him preventing any contact with Ms Beavers.
Ms Beavers said: "I think the sentence is far too lenient considering what he has put us through.
"I don't feel safe here and I have not received adequate protection from the police. It has been a battle to get anything done.
"People, gay or not, shouldn't have to put up with this. It's been horrendous."
Mrs Beavers claims she suffered three years of abuse and threats since coming to the town to be with her girlfriend and her young daughter.
Ms Beavers said: "He would turn up at the house and be extremely abusive. He would call me things like a freak and a dyke.
"I would get abusive phone calls from him in the office and he stated turning up at my work.
