EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of December 21, 1979 highlight news of the day:

l An impassioned plea has been made to the Town Council to help preserve the few remaining unspoilt sites in Penarth by opposing applications to develop them for housing.

l Father Christmas, accompanied by Miss Penarth, arrived in Penarth Town Centre in his horse drawn, open carriage last Saturday afternoon.

l The Street Lighting Department was called out when the top of a lamppost in Tennyson Road, Penarth, was blown off at 7.15pm last Sunday.

l Penarth Town Council is opposing a plan to open a new take-away food shop in Glebe Street.

l Sully Community Council recently confirmed a decision to provide a chain of office for the Chairman at an estimated cost of 450.
