Welsh League
Division 1:
Bridgend 3
Dinas Powys 1
The first chance in this game fell to the home side when a free kick from 35 metres was cleared and the resulting corner was headed wide.
Dinas' first attack produced a free kick, which was headed wide by Kurt Bettles.
Then an exchange of passes between Jon Carpentier and Leigh Vick ended with a good cross to the far post, which saw a Peter Lewis header pushed around the post by the 'keeper for an unproductive corner.
Further chances fell to both sides, but Bridgend took the lead on the stroke of half time when their number eight moved into the penalty area and his well-struck shot went into the opposite corner of the net.
Dinas started the second half with more purpose, and shots from Leigh Vick and James Harries went close.
But Bridgend scored against the run of play when a good move on their left ended with a low cross into the area and their number 10 scored from eight metres.
Dinas used their substitutes in a desperate attempt to get something out of the game, but in the 73rd minute Bridgend increased their lead when their number seven scored from 25 metres.
In the 80th minute, Dinas scored when Leigh Vick and Peter Lewis combined to produce a cross and Jamie Dix to make the final score 3-1 to the home side.
Welsh League Reserve Division East:
Dinas Powys 6
Risca & Gelli 0
The management team of Garland and Butler were looking for more commitment and effort than the previous week and that was exactly what they got in a very one-sided game.
Mainly due to the hard work and tenacity of all the Dinas players, they recorded a 6-0 victory.
This was all the more pleasing due to the fact that the pitch was very heavy, but the home side passed the ball around with extreme confidence and skill.
The goals were scored by Paul Light (2), Thomas Hamonet (2), Ali Kiyaga, and Gareth Hemmens.
Thanks must also go to Father Christmas and his chicken, who turned up to enjoy themselves before the start of their busy season.
