Services are improving

COUNCIL services in the Vale of Glamorgan are improving significantly, according to the latest report from the District Auditor.

In his report on the council's performance in 2003/4, the Audit Commission's Paul Griffiths said the Vale's efforts to improve public services were now'beginning to deliver real and meaningful improvements'.

He said: "The council has continued to demonstrate considerable commitment over the last 12 months to deliver continuous service improvement. The process and arrangements developed to achieve this objective are now in place."

Mr Griffiths highlighted the work done by the council to identify its key priorities and to ensure services were being delivered well and in line with need.

"A number of improvement studies have been undertaken during the year, with several examples of good practice being identified."

However, Mr Griffiths warned that the council would need to maintain its efforts to ensure optimal benefits for residents.

"The challenge for the council over the next 12 months will be to maintain the momentum so the people of the Vale of Glamorgan see the true benefits of improved services."

Vale of Glamorgan leader Cllr Jeffrey James said the council had worked hard to make real progress.

"Improving the way we work and the services we deliver has been a key priority for us for some time," he said.

"It is pleasing our efforts are now bearing fruit and that these improvements have been recognised by the Audit Commission.
