Sully U12s star in cup upset

ON AN excellent playing surface at Burnham Avenue, Sully Allstars played top-of-the-table Llantwit A in the quarter finals of the divisional cup.

Sully started very well, with Sam Smith and James Marr having early opportunities. But all efforts were either saved by Llantwit's alert keeper or retrieved from local gardens.

*lantwit played on the break, with Alex Long well-marshalled by Sam Jones and Anton Massey at the heart of the Sully defence.

*lantwit have an excellent midfield and they really stretched Adam Muse, Sam Morgans and Rhys Williams throughout the first half.

A little against the run of play, Long broke into the box and angled a great shot into the bottom left-hand corner of the Sully goal.

With Luke Goodfellow having no luck on the right wing, Sully brought on Kris Murphy in an effort to improve things in front of goal. Nathan Smith was also brought off, through injury.

Both teams continued to have their chances and from a corner on the right, Smiley Smith equalised.

This lifted both teams and Lewis Ali made a fine run from right back to the Llantwit box and angled a cross into the box that Kris sent just past the post.

*lantwit then forced some excellent saves from Wiggy in the Colts' goal.

With extra time looming, Sully changed their shape by moving Kris Murphy up front with Sam Smith.

James Marr moved into midfield and Jack Byrne started to raid down the left.

With both teams committed to attack, Sully got the break, with Kris beating a number of defenders before slotting the ball home under the Llantwit keeper. Llantwit went all out for the equaliser, but Sully held on for a very creditable victory.
