'24-hour drinking will not affect us'

PENARTH'S landlords say the Government's plans to extend licencing laws to allow 24-hour drinking are unlikely to have a major impact in the town.

Lionel Jones, landlord of the Cefn Mably on Redlands Road, said: "I will still be closing at 11pm.

"If there was a special occasion or for a function, I would consider staying open later.

"Most of my regulars are ready to go home by 11pm.

"We tend to get an older crowd coming in here. The youngsters drink in the town centre.

"I think it is pubs and bars in Cardiff city centre that will want to take advantage of the changes and stay open longer."

Charles Anderson, landlord of the Merry Harrier, said: "I am in favour of a relaxation of the licencing laws but I think the changes will mainly affect city centre pubs.

"In lots of local pubs I think people are ready to go home by 11pm and I don't imagine there would be the demand for 24-hour drinking."
