Winning ways pay off for schoolteacher

A PENARTH schoolteacher was all smiles last week after picking up 16,000 on hit ITV show Who wants to be a millionaire?

Brene Hully, aged 54, head of French at Stanwell Comprehensive School, was put under the spotlight by quizmaster Chris Tarrant at the Elstree studios in Hertfordshire where the programme is filmed.

"I'm delighted with the prize money," said Brene.

"There has been a lot of excitement in school about my appearance on the show, and lots of the pupils watched it.

"It was a nerve-wracking experience but we were very well prepared by the production staff."

Brene was first on the buzzer in the fastest-finger-first round to earn his call-up to the hot seat.

He breezed through the early stages, answering five questions correctly without having to use any of his lifelines.

In the 2,000 question Tarrant asked Brene: "Which US TV comedy features a coffee shop manager called Gunther?"

Brene called on the help of the studio audience, and 84 per cent of them voted for option A: Friends.

To take his winnings to 4,000 Brene said that Rachel Stevens was a member of S Club and not Atomic Kitten, Mis-Teeq or Steps.

For 8,000 the Stanwell teacher said that Ellesmere Port overlooked the river Mersey and for 16,000 he confirmed that a skink was a kind of lizard.
