WE were concerned to hear of Ms Whitaker's disappointment at the lack of response by her local councillors on the proposed development in the Marina (Penarth Times, January 20).

It is often very tempting to speak out on planning matters, but we recognise that to do so would contravene the code of conduct to which local councillors must adhere and thereby jeopardise the planning process.

However, we believe that more important than our views are those of the people we are elected to represent.

This is why we have hand-delivered newsletters on local issues and held local meetings and coffee mornings to ensure that we hear the views and concerns of local residents.

We have put together the comments made at the meeting held at The Pilot about the proposed Marina development and will forward them to the Vale Council in writing.

And we will ensure that these concerns will be aired at the planning meeting when the development is considered.

We have also promised to inform residents of the date of the meeting so that anyone who wishes to may attend.

We hope that all those in St Augustine's Ward feel that they can contact any one of us at any time if they think we can be of assistance, or just to give us their views on a particular subject.
