Memories

YES I remember gas mantles (Mal's Memories, Penarth Times), I used to buy them from the gas showrooms.

I also remember coal fires and I also remember that any snow that settled on the ground would be covered in soot particles in a couple of days. I remember my mother counting the bags of coal as they were tipped down the cellar grate.

I remember the old Co-op where men in white smocks had to serve from different counters, loose biscuits on display in open tins and sugar sold loose in blue bags.

I remember traction buses, or as we used to call them where I came from, trackless buses, as they did not run on rails.

I also remember Saturday morning matinees, black and white TV, and Saturday afternoon wrestling introduced by Kent Walton.
