Youngsters serve up a treat!

FIVE Vale clubs enjoyed the first inter-club fun day at Dinas Powys Lawn Tennis Club.

Players from Penarth Rectory, Windsor, Cowbridge, Barry and Dinas took part in the Tennis Wales-sponsored event.

The morning saw 55 mini-tennis players compete as part of teams Federer, Roddick, Hewitt, Safin, Sharapova and Davenport.

Tennis challenges included the longest rally - with some fantastic scores - throw the furthest, relay races, fun quiz and competitive slams or tie-break challenges to end the two hour team-based session.

The points were tallied up by the club coach Rob Walbyoff, and the Federer team narrowly won the morning session.

Then it was the turn of the 11 and overs, and 44 older juniors divided into teams, scoring points for the longest rally, volley to volley, races, fun quiz and team slams. This time Davenport came out on top thanks to a 100 percent score on a very tough match - the player quiz.

Special thanks to Sarah James, the new tennis development officer, who brought the event together.

The next big junior event at Dinas Powys will be Opening Day on Saturday, March 19, between 10am and 12.30pm, when members old and new are welcome to come along and meet our club coach Rob Walbyoff and his assistant, Anthony Nelms.
