I DON'T particularly want to get into a war of words with Gordon Bell, but I really feel compelled to respond to his rather belligerent attack (Penarth Times, February 10) on the opinion I expressed regarding the Beachcliff Development.
Has Mr Bell seen the plans?
If so, he might be better off concentrating on enlightening us all as to the details, rather than prosaic and repetitive attempts to insult those whose opinion he disagrees with.
My letter of February 3 was primarily a rather satirical response to an article in the Penarth Times in which Mr Fear of Decourcy Ltd (et al) appeared to be attempting to bamboozle the community into accepting their proposals for the development of the beachfront.
The speculation on my part that something rather underhand might be taking place - or else why would their pitch be so aggressive'? - appeared to be confirmed to an extent by the well-researched letter entitled coincidences' that appeared on the same day.
I am in no way against change per se and, although I have plenty of faults, people who know me would, I'm sure, find the descriptions small minded' and old fashioned' laughable.
I would agree, however, that I can be guilty of scepticism when it comes to the motives and morals of certain developers', although I'm sure that some genuine, honest and well-intentioned organisations of this ilk do exist.
As to living in a fantasy world, I rather think that this is more likely to apply to Mr Bell who appears to be making some rather naive and un-informed assumptions about the potential benefits of this project to the community.
