Penalty robs Sports of a win

South Wales Senior League

Cascade 1 Sully Sports 1

SPORTS suffered a setback even before the game when late withdrawals meant re-organising the team.

Therefore a depleted team went into this tough game knowing that a win could take them top of the senior league.

Sully had the better of a tight first half, missing a few half chances on a bumpy pitch.

The defence coped well with the occasional home attack and Haggard and Ferguson were dominating the middle.

The second half saw Sully forced into using their only substitute, but it paid immediate dividends as Mathew Hoare forced the ball over the line after Adam Govier had headed goalwards.

After a fracas on the half way line both teams were reduced to ten players as tempers flared.

Sully were holding out comfortably and in sight of an excellent win, when in the 94th minute the referee awarded Cascade a penalty.

The result was that Sully were reduced to nine players due to dissent and Cascade equalized from the spot kick.

The stunned Sports players did not deserve to lose out on three points after working so hard to achieve a result.

This Saturday Sports travel to Stanleytown - all players should report at 12.20pm at Cwm Talwg.
