Dinas do not hold back in goal fest

DINAS Under 14s extended their recent good run with a comfortable victory over Holton Road - despite conceding a shock early goal.

It was evident that the usually rock solid Jake Constant was struggling in defence, and a recurrence of his recent health problems saw him last no more than ten minutes before he was replaced by Warren Mason.

Sam Gardiner then switched from right midfield to right back joining Chris Hignett, Jack Palfrey and James Nellany in defence, with Mason joining Max Smith, Tom John and Luke Oeppen in midfield.

There followed an awkward five minutes or so while Dinas battled to gain command in midfield, with Tom John again dominant, before the boys settled down and hit back through Rob Jeffery, and were soon in front with Dan Jose turning provider for Jeffery to claim a first half hat trick.Dinas finished the half 5-1 ahead with further goals from Jose.

Changes at half time saw Owain Poole introduced to right midfield with Mason at right back, Alex Gilflin on at wide left, and Luke Oeppen replacing James Nellany at left back. Holton pulled a goal back, but Gilflin caused havoc going forward, resulting in some top quality goals. On the other side Poole claimed his first hat trick of the season.

Scorers were Jeffery (6), Jose (4), Poole (3), Gilflin and Smith making a total of 56 goals for and eight against in the last seven league games, including six wins, which have brought them level third with Caddy Imps.

Dinas have only five league games remaining, all of which will be tough ones, starting with a home fixture against Barry West End.
