Novel stamps

A LOVE story with a happy ending or a novel full of shadowy secrets?

Charlotte Bronte's novel Jane Eyre caused a sensation when it was published - and to mark the 150th anniversary of the novelist's death, Royal Mail has issued six stamps based on the classic work.

Penarth Operatic and Dramatic Society, who are performing the stage version of Jane Eyre from March 16 to 18 at The Paget Rooms in Penarth, were delighted to help launch the stamps this week.

Marketing Officer Mary Gardner said: "They are quite a dramatic set of stamps, very striking, and we are pleased Royal Mail has thought to remember the novel's heroine and author in this way."

PODS member Amanda Matthews, from Sully, who plays Jane Eyre, got into costume to reveal the stamps.

The stamps, launched to coincide with World Book Day today , feature six lithographs by artist Paula Rego.
