A LLANDOUGH woman has hit out at Cardiff Bus and the Vale of Glamorgan Council for what she describes as a "terrible service" in her area.
Christine Griffiths, aged 52, has been battling with the transport company since they slashed the service between her community and Penarth town centre.
She told the Times: "Three years ago we had a fantastic circular service that would drop you in the centre.
"But then they cut it. We still have a limited route, but after 2.45pm, if you want to catch a bus into Penarth, you have to either get on the Barry or Cardiff buses, and then hop on to another bus from there into Penarth.
"This is a ridiculous system. There's only one way to get around it, and that's to walk down the steep lane leading to Cardiff Road.
"But it doesn't have a proper pavement to walk along and it gets too muddy to be safe.
"There are many pensioners living here who cannot cope with the walk or the danger it presents."
She added: "I want to know why we've been left stranded here. It's not as if the community has what we need - we don't even have a Post Office any more."
Cardiff Bus responded by saying the responsibility lay with the local authority for this particular route.
And a Vale of Glamorgan Council spokesman said: "The council financially supports three services running from Llandough/Llandough Hospital and serving Penarth - Service 87 (comprising five return journeys between Llandough and Penarth from 09:38 to 14: 58), Service 88 (eight return journeys between Llandough Hospital and Barry, via Penarth, from 08:07 to 18:45) and Service 89 (eight return journeys between Llandough Hospital and Cardiff, via Penarth, from 08:05 to 18:45).
