A BRAVE Penarth woman who battled cancer for three years has made a difference to many people's lives even after her death.
Mother-of-two Sue Jones was aged just 49 when she lost her long fight against the killer disease on December 28, 2004.
And to honour her grit and determination, Sue's husband Lyn and her two children, Sarah, aged 29, and Matthew, aged 27, raised 1,000 by asking for donations in lieu of flowers.
Lyn, of Albert Crescent, told the Times: "Sue was an inspiration to us all.
"We wanted to make sure she was remembered and we were touched when so many of her friends were so generous with their donations.
"Sue fought hard against the cancer, beating it once. Even when it came back, she refused to lie down under it."
Both Lyn and Sue worked for BT, and it was through the telecommunications company that Sue managed to realise one of her strongest ambitions.
Lyn added: "For her determination and her dedication, she was put forward for The Masters Competition - an award that applies to all members of BT staff across the whole country. Sue was up against 19 other contenders, but her story was so remarkable she was awarded the first prize."
Even though she was desperately ill, Sue and Lyn embarked on a fantastic journey across the USA, taking in sights like the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley and visiting Utah, Nevada, Las Vegas, Tombstone and Colorado.
Lyn said: "I want to express our deepest thanks for the support of all who have known us and fought beside us through this period."
