Father gets on his bike to fund rugby boys

IT is roughly 48 miles from the Penarth town clock to the Merthyr Tydfil town clock and back again.

That's 48 miles of sweat, tears and toil - and for most it would be too hard a task.

But father-of-two Rob Tyler is not your ordinary man.

The 5ft 10in cyclist who has made the sport a hobby, and relishes (while also dreading) taking on challenges in aid of a cause.

The purpose of this feat was to raise money for the Penarth rugby Under 11s tour to Torquay that takes place over the Easter weekend.

Rob's son Jordan will accompany the coaches, players and parents who will make the most of the Easter break centred around rugby.

This will be the second year running that Penarth has attended the tournament.

Leaving at 8am it took Rob a little over five hours to achieve his round trip.

Having previously completed this course along the A470, Rob chose the more scenic route by following the Taff Trail.

Joined by his wife Paula at the town clock in Merthyr Tydfil, the pair rode back towards Penarth where they were greeted by family and friends, in a day that would have made champion cyclist Lance Armstrong proud.
