Dinas U17s are back to form

A DISAPPOINTING run of defeats was brought to an unexpected but welcome end for Dinas Powys U17s, when they reproduced some of their excellent pre-Christmas form to defeat a high-flying but under-strength Colcot outfit.

Playing with the slope but into a bitter wind, Dinas set about proceedings with gusto, determination and'lady luck' in their line-up.

The home side spurned several early chances and were frustrated by two superb saves from'reformed' Dinas keeper Roberts.

Chastened by his recent Barry Villa nightmare, the youngster's pre-match preparation has improved, which is much appreciated by his manager and team mates.

Dinas cleared under pressure in the 20th minute, and a five-touch move was finished by Mason.

Weathering the storm for the next ten minutes, the Dinas defence finally cracked and at half time the teams went in level.

With the introduction of Tucker, Dinas dominated the second half.

In the 54th minute, a hanging cross from Tucker found Borril, who headed in at the far post, after two Colcot players were yellow carded for careless challenges.

Spurred on by the hard-tackling Terrar and inspired by the clever running of Chang, Dinas pressed forward and only the efforts of the Colcot keeper kept the hosts in the game.

In the 60th minute, Hamlin replaced the industrious Joyce and immediately blasted in an effort from the edge of the six-yard box.

Confidence grew visibly when Tucker smashed home a close-range effort after 70 minutes it. Borril calmly struck his second two minutes before time.

Dinas face Penarth Saints this weekend.
