A Test for Wales

THE man charged with realising Glamorgan's dream of bringing test cricket to Sophia Garden is Penarthian Peter Ingram.

Peter, Glamorgan Cricket's stadium manager at their Sophia Gardens home, is responsible for upgrading facilities as part of the ambitious county's'A Test for Wales' drive.

Peter, aged 35, said: "Our ultimate goal is to bring test match cricket to Glamorgan.

"We have a plan in place to make sure we have the facilities needed to do that.

"Last year, Glamorgan hosted a tri-nations one day international between New Zealand and the West Indies, and are hoping to get a one-day match involving England this year."

In a first phase of improvements, Glamorgan has installed new floodlighting at a cost of around 250,000 to hold evening games.

Glamorgan will this season hold eight fixtures in the Tote Sport League and three 20/20 matches under floodlights. Musco, a company specialising in lighting at American baseball stadia, was commissioned by Glamorgan to do the work.

Peter said: "The next stage will be a new pavilion. We also aim to increase our capacity to around 15,000 seats.

"We hope to build on the success of the team last season and are looking to improve our ground as our fan base grows."

Last year Glamorgan reached a Lords final and won the Tote Sport League.

Current squad members include Matthew Maynard, Robert Croft, Australian Matthew Elliot, Simon Jones and Alex Wharf.

Peter said: "Obviously most of the improvement work is carried out during the winter months.
