Drive to recycle

THE Vale of Glamorgan Council is urging residents planning a spring clean to think before they throw unwanted items in the bin.

This latest appeal supports the council's'What's in your bin?' campaign which aims to reduce the amount of rubbish going to landfill.

Cllr Geoff Cox, Cabinet Member for Visible Services, explained: "Once something is thrown in the bin, it becomes rubbish and ends up buried in a landfill site - but many items can be reused and recycled."

Good quality items such as books, clothes, shoes, curtains, toys, and bric-a-brac can all be donated to charity shops for resale and reuse.

And many charities also welcome mobile phones, printer cartridges and spectacles for recycling.

Residents can also recycle the following in the council's free kerbside recycling scheme: Newspapers, magazines, junk mail, cans, glass jars and bottles.
