There is nothing like a dame!

FORMER Penarth schoolgirl Tanni Grey-Thompson was this week made a Dame by the Queen at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

Former St Cyres pupil Tanni, who is Britain's most successful Paralympian, received her Damehood for services to disabled sport.

Tanni said: "It's pretty cool to be Dame Tanni. It's just been amazing. It shows how far Paralympic sport has come in this country.

"Once the formalities were out of the way, I saw my family in the audience and that was really emotional because they looked so proud. I was quite teary."
