LAST weekend was a very busy one for Windsor Tennis Club junior members.
On Saturday, three junior teams were in action in the opening matches of the local Junior League, two at home and one away.
The U12 boys and girls teams hosted opponents from Esporta in Cardiff.
Despite a spirited challenge from the Windsor Juniors, both teams lost to strong opponents from the Cardiff club.
All matches were played showing great sportsmanship and valuable experience has been gained for future fixtures.
The Windsor girls U14 team, comprising Sophia Bartley-Vitolo, Helen Randall and Fiona Latham, travelled to Dinas Powys to play their match.
Windsor Number One Sophia just lost out to the Dinas Number One player, but both Helen and Fiona won their singles matches, which meant that Windsor went into the last match - a doubles - needing a victory to win the fixture overall.
Sophia and Helen lost the first set but came back strongly to take the second set and then played a storming tie-break to clinch the match.
On Sunday, the 10-and-Under Juniors at Windsor played a family tournament.
The children were divided into boxes dependent on age, and each child was "handicapped" by being given an adult doubles partner.
The matches were all hard-fought, although some of the children felt that their partners did not really pull their weight!
The group winners were: Bronwen Swain (Mini Green); Morgan Williams (Mini Orange); Luke Swain (Mini Red).
All the winners received prizes courtesy of Tennis Wales and a big thank you must go to all the parents whose hard work made this event possible.
On Good Friday, March 25, junior members are invited to take part in the Easter Egg Hunt between 3 and 5pm at the club. There will be tennis-based fun on the top courts and Easter crafts in the club house.
For senior members, the first social tennis event of the year will take place on Easter Monday. This will be an American Tournament, which will start at 2pm and be followed by tea.
* New members (of all ages) are always welcome at Windsor Tennis Club. For further information, please contact Rob Cunningham on 07909 987359.
