AFTER12 years of involvement with Penarth and Dinas Runners' Gwent Cross Country League, Keith Hopkins has decided that it is time to put his feet up.
Sine October 1992 Keith and his daughter Ceri have been two constants involved with the league, and they were joined on just about every occasion as well by Keith's wife Carole.
Keith's role was the invaluable one of team manager, a task which he has carried out for six years.
A club spokesman said: "He was always a steady hand while others around him panicked over who was turning up and quick with a joke to calm the pre-run nerves.
"It has been a great pleasure having Keith ensuring that we were all registered in time leaving us runners to get on with the'easy' bit.
"Keith's role did not stop there, as he then turned up at some far flung section of the course to give an encouraging shout to'giddy' you up just as legs were flagging.
"He will be greatly missed as the focal point for the club's runners at events.
"So from all the current runners, but surely from all our past Gwent Leaguers as well, thanks Keith."
His commitment to the club was also at the expense of his other great passion, Cardiff City FC, and he and the family were often seen legging it from events to try to get to Ninian Park for the second half, but never before Keith had completed his duties for Penarth and Dinas to ensure all the finishing tabs were back with the officials.
Ceri, who has not missed a Gwent League event since 1992 either, is considering whether to keep her consecutive streak going.
It is likely that she is among the youngest runners to complete 65 events.
