Battling Boland makes his mark as boxer of the night!

Penarth ABC held a boxing show in Cogan Leisure Centre, with club heavyweight John Boland taking the Best Boxer of the Night award after a brilliant 50-50 battle with R Davies of Penrhyl Amateur Boxing Club.

Some really heavy punches were exchanged and every round was just about even - apart from when John used his jab and straight right hand, and then he was the better boxer.

There was some fantastic support for John who tried to please the crowd and have a toe-to-toe punch-up.

But it's all experience, and he will have learned a lot from this fight.

Alex McInch improved brilliantly to earn a deserved win over Nick Durn of Porthcawl ABC.

In the second round, Alex hit Durn with a terrific right hand and he hit the canvas very hard.

He was really hurt, but Alex let his man off the hook and Durn recovered to fight all three rounds with Alex winning a unanimous decision.

A highlight of the evening was when coach Neil Munn got in the ring and took up-and-coming fighters Mason Good, Josh Good, Ryan Thompson, Jamey Baird-Murray, Lewis Phelp and Ben Harding in the ring on the hand pads.

What an excellent performance by all the young boxers!

Penarth's British champion Keiron Harding had a very lively exhibition against an inexperienced travelling lad Fancy McDonner.

What a performance by McDonner, catching Harding with a lot of lovely shots.

Harding was too busy listening to the crowd to get his own boxing together. His supporters had to be told to calm down several times by the door staff.

Thank you to everyone that sponsored Penarth ABC and supported the event.
