FIRST TEAM - WELSH LEAGUE DIVISION ONE

CAERLEON 0 DINAS POWYS 0

PLAYING the side one place above them in the table, it was important that Dinas kept in touch with Caerleon - and the teams immediately above them.

And although this battling performance wasn't pretty, it was effective.

In the sixth minute Dinas had claims for a penalty turned down when James Harries appeared to be tripped in the penalty area.

Five minutes later Peter Lewis shot from the edge of the penalty area only to see the ball hit the foot of the post, bounce across the goalmouth and somehow run out for a goal kick.

From a Dinas corner Kurt Bettles challenged for the ball which fell to Liam Jones but his shot went over the bar.

Caerleon were gifted a couple of chances by the Dinas defence but Richie Johnson in the Dinas goal was equal to anything the Caerleon forwards could throw at him.

Dinas went in at halftime having just about had the better of the first half.

Caerleon started the second half strongly and the Dinas keeper made a couple of good saves.

Good work on the right side of the area ended with a Lloyd Davies cross, but Peter Lewis could not connect and the ball went for a goal kick.

In the 66th minute Caerleon's Chris Pearce wasted a good chance by shooting over from a good position, and at the other end a Dinas cross from the left side was returned back across goal by Neil Jeremy only for Liam Jones to miss out at the far post.
