Memorial cash boost

A DAD and his running partner are hoping to earn more than £10,000 by Christmas for his son's memorial fund.

Vale men Paul Adamson and Ceri Binding are running the London Marathon to raise money for the Jamie Adamson Memorial Fund, launched by the Penarth Times.

Jamie died of leukaemia at Llandough Hospital at the age of five, and his dad Paul decided to raise money in his memory.

The 38-year-old said: 'We want to raise as much money as possible for the families and children who are suffering.

'My wife and I know what it is like to spend all our time in hospital. The children there are so brave and they don't complain. We have been training to get fit and run miles and miles. I have lost weight because of all the training.

'But I am not looking forward to it, I must admit.

'We will finish because it does not matter how long we take - it is for the children and the memory of Jamie. We can't do anything medically for the children, so all we can do is raise money.'

Ceri, who is also 38, said: 'I want to help Paul to raise as much as possible, because Jamie was my friend.

'We have been training together and will cross the line together. I have said Paul can go ahead if he wants - but we will help each other through the race.'

Paul and Ceri would like to thank all the people who have donated money so far.

The Penarth Times launched the appeal to raise funds throughout 2005. Money will be shared between LATCH, the Llandough children's cancer charity, and Children with Leukaemia, the national charity based at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

* A big thank you to all those who have donated money this week - including Mrs Marley, and Mrs Maureen Gardner, who donated money in memory of her husband Tony who died of leukaemia last Easter.
