PUPILS from Headlands School were at Cogan Leisure Centre last week to kick off Penarth's contribution to the 2005 Swimathon.
The five-strong team from Headlands School was made up of two teachers, Matthew Burns and Rob Wicks, plus three pupils, Daniel Poole, aged 14, Daniel Manship, aged 13, and Thomas Gallear, aged 14.
Headlands teacher Matthew Burns said: "This is a very special event for us because our school is run by the charity that will benefit from it, NCH Cymru.
"This is the fifth year in a row that Headlands has entered a team."
Penarth Leisure Centre is one of 26 swimming pools in Wales taking part in the 2005 Butlins Swimathon - the world's largest swimming fundraising event.
NCH Cymru, the children's charity, helps children and young people facing difficulties or challenges in their lives.
It works with children and young people, including those affected by poverty, disability and abuse. More information on the charity can be found at www.nch.org.uk. Headlands is a residential and day school for boys and girls with challenging behaviour, including a newly-established Autistic Spectrum Disorder/Austism service.
